Former site of Hotel Sherman, where the first joint convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians was held in 1950. P.C. Sorcar attended for the first time, in full costume, and ruffled the feathers of many in attendance.

Also at the Hotel Sherman, in May 1930, the 2nd S.A.M. Conference. Attendees included Dorny, Jossefy, Thurston, and Laurant.

Built in 1837, the Sherman Hotel was closed in 1973 and demolished in 1980 to build the State of Illinois Building.
